Effie Trinket Inspired Nails

Effie Trinket Inspired Nails

Even though I haven't seen the Hunger Games film (or finished the book!) yet when I saw a movie still showing this nail design I thought it would be perfect for a nail art post. Elizabeth Banks wears a selection of dramatic and over the top costumes throughout the film including this more extreme blue nail design but the hot pink and gold gradient look worn during the reaping scene is really simple to recreate. I decided to go ahead and embellish them a little more with some glitter and sequins but the basic gradient look is very wearable. Here is my quick step by step guide:

Effie Trinket Nails Step By Step

You will need: pink polish, gold polish, a sponge, topcoat/basecoat, optional: sequins & glitter

- Apply a clear basecoat followed by an opaque layer of pink polish all over the nail.
- Using a sponge to lightly apply the gold polish onto the top half or 2/3 of the nail.
- Continue layering the gold concentrating more on the tip of the nail to create a more opaque look which fades out into the pink.
- Add a layer of your favourite topcoat either all over the nail to seal the finished design if you want to leave it here or just on the tip to provide a base to stick the glitter and sequins onto.
- If you want to add glitter and sequins use your finger or tweezers to lightly press them onto the tip of the nail and seal the design with another layer of topcoat.

As always let me know if you try out this design, I'd love to see!

Have you seen The Hunger Games yet? Would you wear an Effie Trinket nail look?
