Oscars 2012 Roundup

Images from

Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli / I know, I know I'm turning into such a broken record with my love of Emma Stone's style but how could her fuchsia dress not make my favourites of the night?! I love the sleek shape, high neckline and I also think the bow really adds a bit of Oscar-appropriate interest. Fuchsia seems like a risky choice of colour for Emma's porcelain skin and red hair but somehow she makes it work.

Kristen Wiig in J. Mendel / I love how the colour of Kristen's dress looks with hair hair colour and black nails. A lot of people have said this dress was a little understated for the occasion but I'd have to disagree!

Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen / I guess this is another love it or hate it dress but I thought it was one for the more interesting looks of the night. Most of the Red Carpet dresses were block coloured so I liked that Jessica's choice was a little different although I don't absolutely love it. It does have a sort of old-fashioned feel to it but I guess that works for this particular occasion.

Rooney Mara in Givenchy / I've really been loving Rooney Mara's choices over the awards season and this white dress is actually one of my least favourites that she's worn. As much as I like the fact she opted for white and broke free from her usual uniform of dark colours I actually think the dark shades suit her so much better (particularly the plum dress/lip combination at Costume Designers Awards). Having said that this Givechy dress still makes my favourites as I do think it's a beautiful design and great choice.

Leslie Mann in Roberto Cavalli / There's always something pretty and eye catching about a navy dress that makes them stand out amongst the crowd without being too bold. I like the cut and shape of this Cavalli dress and the detailing makes is Oscar-worthy.

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji / It wouldn't be the Oscars without a bit of sparkle and I think Octavia's dress was the perfect example of this. Although it was embellished all over it was still subtle and sophisticated enough for the event and perfect for her Supporting Actress win!

Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab / This white Elie Saab number was the first of many white dresses on the Red Carpet this year and definitely one of the best. I love the asymmetric neckline and the detailing. The red lip is a nice touch alongside a white dress too, as also demonstrated by Rooney Mara.

Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton / Wearing red on the Red Carpet can be a controversial choice, and although in my opinion it doesn't beat her 2006 yellow Vera Wang number, Michelle's red Louis Vuitton dress suited her perfectly. You can't actually see it in this photo but on the right side of the dress there was a small silver bow detail at the waist which I found a little fussy and didn't like at all but other than that it's a lovely choice.

*Kate Mara also looked lovely in Jack Guisso Couture but I stupidly forgot to include the photo!
