NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams

I originally bought these after wanting to try the Collection 2000 Cream Puffs but not being convinced by any of the four available shades. I decided to try the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams instead as there are eleven shades to choose from and I've seen them compared to the Collection 2000 ones. Looking at the swatches I picked out these three thinking that Istanbul and Milan would be suitable 'everyday' shades and that Monte Carlo would be a nice deep red. Of course the big problem with buying online is that you can't look at the products before you buy them and have to go by the website's swatches or posts on other blogs. As you'll see in the photographs below the swatches aren't exactly accurate. Despite this the texture of the lip creams is lovely, they apply really smoothly and dry to a matte finish. Another thing worth pointing out is that they smell amazing. A lot of the time I'm not a huge fan of strongly scented products but these smell like sweets, so good!

My swatches vs. the BeautyJoint.com swatches

Istanbul: In the tube this looks like a beautiful nude but when applied to the lips it's quite a bright pastel shade which is actually more of a light coral. The image below doesn't show this very well but it does look a lot bolder in the bright daylight. Looking at the swatches on the website the colour shown for Tokyo is more like how Istanbul looks in real life. Although it doesn't quite look like the swatch you can see in the photos below its probably the most wearable of the three I chose.

Milan: This colour actually reminds me a lot of Cotton Candy from the Collection 2000 range. I've completely been put off of these kinds of pink tones after buying Topshop's Innocent lipstick which looks really awful on me but a little dab of Milan actually looks quite nice and subtle. In the swatches above you can see that on the website Milan looks quite peachy and definitely nothing like the bright pink shade in my swatch. I don't mind this colour and like I said a dab of it looks nice on but if you're after this shade I would recommend picking up the Collection 2000 version instead!

Monte Carlo: I was most disappointed with this shade because it's brighter and so much more pink-toned than I was expecting. It's the darkest shade available in the range and looks like a nice deep red in the Beauty Joint swatch but looks awful on. It has a slightly thinner consistency to the other two and when applied looks rather patchy and horrible, not a fan of this at all!

Have you tried the NYX or Collection 2000 Lip Creams?

I bought the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams from www.beautyjoint.com priced at $5.70 / approx £3.70 each
