Oculus Reparo.

So this isn't actually a post about repairing glasses, I don't even wear glasses, it just happens to be my favourite spell.
I've really taken my time over this post and was hoping to include everything but have decided to cut it down and I’m not happy with it, I’d make a terrible editor! I was also hoping to wait until I had seen the film a second time but my plans fell through and I’ve gotten too impatient. So if anyone is still interested this is my post on The Deathly Hallows Part 2.

I think I’ve left sufficient time now but I'm calling SPOILER ALERT here before I go any further. Anyone who hasn't read or watched The Deathly Hallows you may want to stop reading. If not just scroll down past the picture to read on! Don't say I didn't warn you.

Image from IMDB

I guess the beginning would be a suitable place to start. As a fan of the series and after DH part one I had high expectations for this film. An unpopular opinion amongst critics but I absolutely loved part one and couldn't wait to see it again. I loved how it was just about the trio and how we finally got to see them outside of the Hogwarts environment. Essentially the final part is a war film in the same way part one was a road movie so stepping back and looking at the final two films as one, like the book, it is a pretty perfect balance.

This was the first time I'd been to a midnight screening and it was lovely to see so many people there. I was disappointed when I was handed regular 3D glasses after seeing the special edition HP frames. I'm not a fan of the way 3D is being used (I actually wrote my dissertation on it!) but unfortunately my local cinema didn’t have the 2D version available at midnight, so off to 3D I went. I was sat next to someone dressed as Dobby with no shoes on and a swimming cap on her head, but for some reason it didn't seem that strange. There was also one boy dressed in Hogwarts robes who ran down the aisle shouting "Troooolllll in the dungeon!!!" and instead of people being annoyed like they would at a normal screening, everyone laughed and clapped.  I can't really think of another time I've been amongst an audience who were so involved in the film, cheering, booing, clapping and crying. I have to confess that personally I didn't cry at the film (please tell me I'm not the only one?!) however I haven't yet found a film that makes me cry so maybe I'm just 'dead inside' like Chandler!

I’ll get the bad stuff out of the way first! I was disappointed by how some of the deaths were handled (the same goes for part one; Hedwig anyone?!) but I do understand that this was most likely due to the time constraints and having to fit so much into this final chapter. My main disappointment with the film was the scene in the forest where Harry uses the resurrection stone and goes on to speak with Dumbledore. I had imagined that scene quite differently when reading the book and I found his conversation with Dumbledore rather tedious and slightly cringe-worthy.
The ’19 years later’ epilogue is another part that I just didn’t like. I know that a lot of people are interested in what would have happened after the final battle when they were able to move on with their lives properly but I didn’t enjoy seeing or reading it.

On a lighter note I did have to laugh at some of the ridiculous noises coming from Voldemort, I mean honestly, he’s supposed to be evil but he was at times hilarious. As was the infamous “hug” he gave to Draco, I know a lot of people have complained about how out of character it was, but surely you have to see the humour in it? I would have to agree that no one else could have played Voldemort, Ralph Fiennes has always handled it well, particularly in his gestures and movements.

Obviously there are so many talented British actors featured in the series, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Gary Oldman and Julie Walters are just a few of my favourites. The performance that stood out for me this time though was how brilliantly Helena Bonham Carter captured Emma's Hermione in the Gringotts scene.

Something else I think is worth mentioning is how great it’s been to see just how many people have been championing Neville and the crucial role he played in defeating Voldemort. I personally really enjoyed the fact that it wasn't one of the trio that saved the day in that moment and that Neville finally got his chance to shine after sticking by them in the background for so long. Plus, I really liked his cardigan.

The amount of comedy added in to counteract the dark tone of the storyline was well handled and overall it balanced out successfully. And while The Philosopher’s Stone will always be the Harry Potter film I turn to, The Deathly Hallows Part 2 is definitely not one to be overlooked.

Now that their HP journey is over and Harry, Hermione & Ron's stories are concluded, I can't help but wonder what the future will bring for Dan, Emma & Rupert. They each have upcoming film projects leaving me questioning who will have the most successful post-Potter career. I posed this question to my mum who replied Rupert Grint because 'he seems to have his head screwed on', and I'd probably have to agree with her. I’d also put money on Tom Felton sticking around for quite a while yet. What do you think the future holds, who would you most like to see succeed?

Weekly Style Inspiration 26.

Cardigans, Crop, Jeans & Shorts: Topshop, Dress: Miss Selfridge, Blush '003 Money Talks': Dainty Doll, Cube Ring:ASOS, Shoes: Kurt Geiger

That blush would definitely be my top pick from the Dainty Doll range, I think the colour is beautiful. I've heard the range is going to be stocked in Boots stores but retailing at prices similar to Mac so I'm not sure if I would actually purchase it. That grey one there is yet another cardigan filled with angora made specifically to irritate my eyes, (maybe I'm exaggerating haha) I love it though it looks super soft.
And a ring in the shape of a cube?... Genius.

My mum very kindly bought me this today. I already have the Wreck This Journal (I keep meaning to post some of my completed pages here....) so I'm excited to start this new one as well!
Now I just have to choose which page to do first....

Sorry for the lack of interesting posts, I've started work on the July Film Roundup & my HP8 post so check back for those soon if you're a film fan!

Weekly Style Inspiration 25.

Earrings & Satchel: ASOS, Necklace: Topman, HP Tee: Skreened, Dress, Sheer Tunic: Miss Selfridge, Lipstick, Purse & Cardigan: Topshop, Shoes: River Island, Bikini: Browns

This week started out filled with neutral and dark colours, until I found that satchel over at ASOS. The colour of it is just perfect and would pretty much go with anything. The bikini is very expensive but I think it's just adorable so it's been included anyway.
Topshop have been slowly bringing out their Autumn knitwear and I've been getting a little bit excited! I'm a huge fan of cardigans and jumpers so I do feel a little out of my comfort zone in the Summer months. Luckily I saved myself some money the other day as I spotted the cutest cardigan in store but it happened to have angora in it which makes my eyes itchy :(
I've also been keen on the idea of dark lipstick recently. I don't often wear lipstick myself but this one is such a beautiful colour it's hard to resist.
Sorry to all the HP haters but one thing I definitely couldn't resist this week was that t-shirt. I've been mulling over which of the Keep Calm HP tees I'd like the most for a few days now but with the help of one of my friends (telling me that I love Ron!) I think I'm finally settled on the 'Marry Ron' one. Now I just need to decide which colour, t-shirt type and size, then it shall be mine!

The very lovely Jennie has just started a Sawyer & Scout giveaway, so head on over and enter if you'd like to win some goodies from my shop!

Sunday DIY: Floral Sketchbook

Firstly thank you so much for your lovely lovely comments on the drawing I posted the other day! It's been crazy discovering just how many bloggers are fellow HP fans and I hope that everyone has been enjoying the final film! I've made myself some bullet pointed notes today ready for a "review" post at some point. Ideally I'd like to wait until i've watched the film again before writing it up and I also didn't want to post any spoilers so I may save it for the DVD release.
I wanted to do another 'How I'm Wearing' type of post today since I've been meaning to get around to it but it just didn't work out. I couldn't settle on what item of clothing I was going to base it on and then when I thought I'd chosen one I couldn't actually find it, lame! I've just found out this weekend that my new furniture has been delayed for another month so I've still just got my little rail of clothes with everything else in boxes :( I haven't forgotten though and I will be doing more posts like that as soon as I can.
Anyway, since it is a Sunday and I've been drawing in this sketchbook, it seems suitable to post. When I was at Uni i used to cover a lot of my sketchbooks like this as it's so simple and just makes them look prettier! I found this one which I actually hadn't used lying around and thought starting something it in might force me to draw more regularly although I think that's just wishful thinking. Basically I just found a lovely piece of floral fabric, cut a suitable sized piece and glued it onto the book.
I decided to just go for and do a "quick" drawing (for me that's several hours rather than weeks/months) and since I've been in the HP spirit I found an image of Emma Watson at the NY premiere and got started. If you're curious, this is how my unfinished drawing is looking right now and I'm not pleased. (I'm posting it now because who knows if it will ever get finished!)

Favourites This Week.

A little Youtube heavy this week I'm afraid. First up I was amused for several hours watching Ellen surprise people!

Also this week I rather got excited to see the trailer for Sherlock Holmes 2 had been released! To be fair it doesn't look that great but I love the first one so I shall be heading to the cinema for that come December.

My Youtube-ing also led me to this new Ryan Gosling interview on Letterman. It doesn't beat his appearance on Ellen back in January but it's pretty good.

I've had style inspiration posts prepped for a while, one featuring the Olsen twins and one featuring thier sister Elizabeth and I think this article explains why, they all look amazing! I'll be sure to post them sometime soon.

Unless you've been living under a huge rock, you'll know that part two of The Deathly Hallows was released this week. I'll probably leave my thoughts on it for the next Film Roundup as I'm sure there will be lots of posts flying around! But if you're dying for more HP, check out Franky's cute post!

Definitely going to have to have a go at making some of these, they look delicious!

And of course the 2011 Emmy nominations were announced. Personally I'm routing for The Big Bang Theory!

P.S Sorry to bang on about them but I've made a few Deathly Hallows pendants available in the shop as they've had so many page views over the last couple of days. If you are interested and they're sold out please send me an email about it, I'd be happy to make one up for you!

Potterific.

Who can tell I'm a little bit excited about Harry Potter today?! I drew that picture four years ago but today seemed an appropriate time to post it here. Let's face it, we all know that Ron is a much more loveable character than Harry and I do think Rupert is perfect in the role. As for the drawing, I've never been very happy with the draw itself, in fact now, so many years later, it seems to be even worse. I guess if I'd drawn it more recently I'd consider it unfinished, the lower face in particular is horrendous. The colour pencil part wasn't a fail though. I'm sure I've mentioned before that that's the part I actually really enjoy. I was drawn to the lighting of the original image and the varied textures, it's from the Teen Vogue shoot in 2007. I desperately need to draw more again, I never seem to find the time and I'm extremely out of practice. Continuing on with the theme I'd love to draw Emma too but I'm still searching for the perfect reference photo, actually if anyone has any favourites leave me links! Anyway, I hope all my fellow HP fans appreciate this today!

I've also gone with a slightly 'magical' feel for my nails. I guess it's similar in many ways to 'galaxy' or 'cosmic' nail art, the technique was pretty much the same anyway. I couldn't resist adding in a little Deathly Hallows symbol on my thumb nail...
(Please excuse the state of my fingers!)

To create my poor attempt at magical nails I used (L-R) Models Own Gun Grey, Max Factor Mini in Silver, Topshop White Witch, The Body Shop Starry Night, Sally Hansen Hard As Nails, 17 polish unnamed colour from a giftset & the Andrea Fulerton Dot & Flick Nail Art Pen in Black

Well, after that little ramble of excitement I'm off to watch Pointless (anyone a fan?!), eat and take a nap before heading to the cinema (loser). So far I've had a pretty horrible day so I'm looking forward to my evening. I hope everyone else who's going to one of the midnight screenings has an amazing time! I've been told that part two isn't that great and that important parts are rushed (sadface) but I'm sure I'll tweet my thoughts on it as I head home...

Weekly Style Inspiration 24.

Earrings, Jeans, backpack & Red Tunic: Topshop, Constrast jumper & Button Up Dress: Zara, Tan Bag & Boots: River Island, Striped Dress: Mango

I know it's not the right time of year for boots but I thought they were cute! I'm still feeling pretty uninspired by what's around in the shops at the moment although those jeans are now firmly on my wishlist.

I'm off now to paint my nails, with a slight HP inspiration, but I'll show you those tomorrow as I have a Potter-based post lined up before I go to the midnight screening... excited! Really hoping for a pair of those limited edition HP frame 3D glasses (I'm a loser!) Who else is going?

Deathly Hallows Pendant Update!

As some of you may have noticed I've recently added these to my shop as 'Coming Soon'. I will be making them to order only due to the fact they take quite a lot of time and effort to make (and I wouldn't want to unnecessarily make a whole lot of them if people aren't interested!)  Part of the traffic on my blog seems to come from people searching for these or how to make them so I thought they would be a good addition to the shop!
If you are interested in buying one or would like more information please don't hesitate to contact me via email eliseetc@hotmail.co.uk
I'd love to hear from you!!

P.S Big thank you to the lovely Jennie for linking my blog :)

Favourites This Week.

Like many people on Twitter I spent my Thursday evening watching the live Harry Potter Premiere coverage online, and like many others I thought Emma looked lovely in her Oscar de la Renta dress.

In much less momentous film news, I was pleased to see the poster and trailer release for Final Destination 5. This is one film series that I personally think is so lame it's actually good.

This video showing a model wearing a year's worth of make up all at once caught my attention.

As did these crazy glasses!

Lauren Conrad posted another great article over at The Beauty Department, this time she gave tips on how to create perfect brows.

And finally, I've also been watching a lot of these TIME 10 Questions videos on youtube. Not as addictive as watching roundtables but still pretty good.

Summertime.

Taken on Minolta 505si

It occurred to me that my last two posts haven't had any images so a photography post surely had to be in order. I took these back in May and looking back I can't believe how blue the skies were then! I love the shapes and patterns created by the lines of the wires and the way they intersect the bold colour of the sky.

Favourites This Week.

I'm quite in love with Lauren Conrad's holiday weekend hair colour posted over at The Beauty Department.
The Deathly Hallows Part Two trailer is absolutely everywhere, very excited about the midnight screening!

Katie posted some of her beautiful drawings. I've been meaning to do some drawings lately so this is great inspiration!

I've been continuing my non-stop watching of Bones, I got addicted very quickly...

I'm hoping my local Topshop gets Head over Heels in stock after reading Vivianna's post.
