September Film Roundup: Buy, Pass or Rent?

Hanna (2011)
We're off to a positive start this time round, I absolutely loved this film. It had been on my 'must-see' list for a while so when I noticed the DVD had been released I rushed over to Lovefilm to add it to my list only to find it wasn't available! I ended up paying £3.49 to rent it from itunes instead but it was most definitely worth the money. A few things about it really stood out to me the first of which is the soundtrack. Its not the conventional accompanying music you'd expect for this genre of film but it works so well and really helps to emphasise certain scenes. Secondly, Saoirse Ronan steals the show, her performance is brilliant. I'm sure she has an amazing career ahead of her after performances like this one and her role in Atonement. This film is now sitting at the top of my 'to buy' list, I can't fault it, I'm looking forward to watching it again.

Mean Girls 2 (2011)
What can I say about Mean Girls 2? I'm a huge fan of the first Mean Girls film as I know a lot of people are. Mean Girls is one of those movies I can watch over and over again, it's always hilarious and it never gets old. It's smart and memorable, just two things that this film isn't. Sitting here trying to write about it I'm actually having trouble remembering most of what happened. What I do know is that the set up is very similar to the original and the story takes place in the same high school with Tim Meadows reprising his role as the principal. Unfortunately that's where the similarities end. The main problem is it just isn't a very good script, definitely a pass!
