June Film Roundup Part 2: Buy, Pass or Rent?

Devil (2010)
I had considered renting this from iTunes many times before as it isn't available on Lovefilm so when I saw it on the shelf at my local library, my other favourite place to rent from, I was sold.
I will admit I went into it knowing which one of the characters was the Devil as I'd read some spoiler-filled articles on it a while back but even so I absolutely loved it. Another one I'll be adding to my mental 'to buy' list for some point in the future.

The Number 23 (2007)
Another film I'd wanted to see when it came out but never got around to until now. I was disappointed in the style and plot of the film even though the concept based around the number was quite interesting. I definitely won't be watching this one again, Pass.

The Informant! (2009)
I'd been hoping to watch this for a little while after seeing the posters and trailer but unfortunately once again I was disappointed. Another pass....

The Crazies (2010)
Love, love, love this movie! This month wasn't the first time I'd seen it but the first since I purchased it. I don't know quite what it is that I like about it, although the direction and cinematography is rather lovely which I find unusual for the genre. I know quite a few people who just find it a bit too gory but if you can handle that side of it then it's pretty darn good haha.

Then She Found Me (2007)
I wish I didn't have to be so negative but I'm just going to have to say it; this is one of the most boring films I have ever seen. Like I've mentioned before I've been trying to watch a wider range of films but this one just turned out to be a waste of time. I don't think I even need to tell you I'm calling this one a pass.

I Am Number Four (2011)
Another disappointment (wow this is negative!), the trailer makes it look rather interesting however I thought it was a pretty dull watch. I'm not sure how well it did and whether they are actually making a sequel but they obviously were aiming for that with the way the storyline played out.

I haven't included everything as I haven't had the time so I may carry a few over to the July round up.
You can find part one here.

Sunday DIY: Photo Frame

Sorry I've been MIA for a couple f days, still not been feeling too well so unfortunately I haven't had much to post about. I do have a few new necklaces to add to the shop though so keep an eye out for those.
So this is another really simple DIY, I painted the frame using an old tester pot colour and glued the buttons on using an all purpose glue. When I got my films back I wanted to frame this picture of Sawyer as it's one of my favourites!
Photo taken on my Minolta, frame from IKEA multipack, buttons are second hand/vintage.

Week In Photos 15

Wearing one of my Sawyer & Scout creations / Found these adorable slippers at Sainsburys but they didn't have my size :( / Played around with some editing software / Watched the entire first series of Bones and loved it! / Bought this little flower shaped pasta whilst shopping for a father's day present / Cooked myself some delicious risotto and covered it in parmesan / Opened my box of Lucky Charms / Made some new necklaces for the shop with these delicate gemstone beads, they'll be available soon!

Also this week I hit 123 followers which made me smile.
I lowered the postage costs over at my shop.
And thanks to the lovely Michelle I had a lot of page views yesterday, more in a day than I've ever had before I think!

Tea and Cake

Taken on my Minolta 505si, (unedited)

It's been far too long since I've done a photography post but I finally got around to scanning some today. These were taken the weekend after the Royal Wedding which explains the patriotic bunting! The cake was delicious if you're wondering..! (but I dislike tea)

Also, check out Izzy's lovely blog where she posted about the Matalan shorts featured in my last Weekly Style post!

How I'm Wearing: Denim Shorts

I've been asked about outfit posts and why I don't do them, there are a few reasons but instead of explaining those I thought I'd try out this idea. I've photographed three different looks based around a simple pair of denim shorts using items from my wardrobe. I love reading other people's styling posts like Michelle's Ways To Wear, I think they're great for inspiration. I know I already post more general style inspiration with the Wednesday posts but I thought I'd make up some actual outfits that I will be wearing rather than all of the items I can't afford. I hope you them them, let me know if you'd like to see more like this!
I bought my denim shorts from Internacionale for £16.99.
(I must apologise for the colouring of these photographs, it was late evening when I took them!)

Outfit One:
Jumper: Urban Outfitters, Necklace: Sawyer & Scout, Belt & Brogues: Topshop, Nail Polish: The Body Shop, Cycle Shorts: New Look
This jumper from UO is currently my most favourite thing to wear, so much so I ordered the black version yesterday! What makes me love it even more is that I very nearly returned it thinking it was too expensive (it's £38) however something in my mind said keep it and I've definitely got my money's worth! The other day I wore it to work with the Shell Necklace and I just loved the combination. The Body Shop nail polish is beautiful but as with all glitter polishes its such a pain to remove. I love it when the lace from the cycle shorts peeps out under the denim shorts so I thought I'd include those too!

Outfit Two:
Brogues: River Island, Vest & Belt: Topshop, Scarf: H&M, Nail Polish: Models Own
There are obviously so many variations of this look but it's simplicity is why I love it so much. I've chosen a printed scarf, patterned brogues and statement nail colour to add interest to it but really you could wear any accessories and it would still look good. I was a big fan of Emma Watson's festival look so I guess this is kind of like my interpretation. I also have to recommend the basic Vest from Topshop, I find these are so comfortable and versatile, they go with everything!

Outfit Three:
Brogues, Tee & Belt: Topshop, Leather Bag: Ebay, Floral Headband: Primark, Bracelets: Sawyer & Scout, Nail Polish: Rimmel

Another simple and casual look that can be enhanced by adding bright accessories and a classic nail polish. I think this would be a great outfit for a festival with the floral headband and charm bracelets adding a cute girly touch. The bag from Ebay was such a bargain, you really can find some lovely things on there. (P.S Please excuse the state of my shoes!!)

I must start work on my June film roundup soon as this month I've decided to do in it parts, it's only the 16th and I've watched 11 films and have several more lined up! I apologise in advance if it becomes movie overload around here shortly.
Anyway, I hope you've liked this new post idea!

Weekly Style Inspiration 21.

Playsuit (petite) & Earrings: Miss Selfridge, Vest: River Island, Shoes & Nail Polish: Topshop, Shorts: Matalan, Bikini: H&M, Clutch: French Connection, TBBT Tee: 8ball

My favourite item here has to be those shorts! I'm loving Matalan shorts right now after buying two pairs at the weekend. If I'd seen these ones the other day I definitely would've picked them up too, they look super comfy! I struggled to find enough items again but i just had to include the Big Bang Theory tee from 8ball, I happen to have the LOST version of this....yes I'm a geek! (I want this one too!!) I'm also really loving that French Connection wooden clutch bag I think it could go with anything and always look chic. The vest from River Island is one of those items I think is lovely but wouldn't buy. I really like the colours and the striped pattern but I don't tend to wear things that bright (!) I can see it being nice for the beach though.
I have something a little different planned for tomorrow's post!

Twitter: Come Say Hello!

As I mentioned yesterday I set up a twitter account for the shop. I initially decided to do this so I can let everyone know about new items and offers over at Sawyer & Scout and to keep up with all of your tweets!
I'm new to Twitter so I'd really love it if you dropped by whether you're interested in the shop and blog or you'd just like to say hello!
You can find me here

I'm also in the process of altering the postage costs at the shop, I started out with a set rate of £1.50 for UK P&P however I'm changing this around a bit so smaller/lighter items are £1 P&P as part of working towards soon having free P&P for the UK and a flat rate for worldwide.
I guess I'll keep you posted on that via my twitter!

Topshop Makeup.

Pencil liner £5, Liquid liner £8, Lipstick £8
Previously I'd only bought nail polishes from the Topshop makeup range however after hearing lots of good things (on some of your lovely blogs!) I thought I would try some of the other products. When they first brought out the range, like many people, I was skeptical about how good the quality of the products would be. The nail polishes I've tried have all been pretty good quality although I have found the shimmery finish ones to be the best, namely Grunge from the Heavy Duty collection which quickly became one of all time favourite polishes. This time round I haven't been disappointed either!
Both of the liners I picked up are extremely long-lasting and I'm very impressed by them, I think Perpetual would be particularly good for a night out! I haven't had a chance to wear the lipstick out yet but I have tested it and I really liked the texture and the finish. I also really like the packaging, it's just too cute. I've been wearing the Burnish liner this week and I really love the colour. Impressively it even held up for about 15 hours on Friday including a day at work and a couple of tube journeys through London in the heat! I think the prices are reasonable (if only I still got student discount....) so I will definitely be going back to buy some more things soon.
Swatches: Lips in Mink, Liner in Perpetual & Bold Liner in Burnish

Also on my Topshop make up wishlist are the Cream blushes in Butterscotch & Nutmeg, Cheek duo in Desert Sun, Eyeshadow mousse in Glint, Lipstick in Enamoured & Nevada and Nail polish in White Witch.

What do you think of Topshop's make up range? What products would you recommend?

Camera Collection.

Minolta X300: the long exposure one
I'm on to my second one of these as the first one actually broke! It's great for long exposure shots like the on on the right but I also like to use it with C41 film.

Fuji Instax Mini: the special occasion one
The film for this one isn't particularly cheap, I used to use it for Uni work but since I finished I tend to only use it on occasions like birthdays (the photo on the far right is actually from my birthday). It's a great alternative to buying a Polaroid camera and I love the cute credit card sized photos. Unlike the larger Instax range it's relatively small and light to carry around.

Holga GCFN: the square one
I actually have two Holgas (greedy!), but this one has a colour flash built in which makes it a little more interesting. This is the only medium format camera on the list (reference to the "squares") and I absolutely love square photographs. I don't know what exactly it is about them but I think they often look nicer that way. I love the effects you can create on the Holga and the individuality of the results. It's always exciting going to pick up prints taken on this camera, you never know what you're going to get!

Minolta 505si SUPER: the go-to film camera
This camera always gives great results and I find its very reliable due to its automatic rewind button, I'm terrible at winding back films manually, so with this theres no need to worry about damaging the film. I actually got this when I was at college so I've had it for about five or six years now, it was second hand and it's still going strong! I don't think i've posted this photo before but I actually quite like it. I took a whole series of that building using various cameras and this was one of my favourites. I love the focus being on the reflection in the puddle, plus the building is such a beautiful colour.

Oktomat: the fun one
This is one I've posted about before. It's great for days out with friends, like in the photo on the right which was taken in Great Yarmouth. It can be used to capture still objects/scenes as well but it's best used on moving subjects. These can also be made into mini movies on the lomography website, one of mine was actually featured in their 'Oktokino' a couple of years back but I don't think they have that one the site anymore. It doesn't have a flash so I tend to only bring it out during the Summer months, the colours it captures are so bright and beautiful on days like this too.

Polaroid One600: the old favourite
My favourite Polaroid camera! I do have a couple of older ones as well but they aren't particularly reliable. I don't often use this camera anymore because of the expense of the film nowadays but it's still a favourite.

Sony NEX-3: the digital one
The only digital camera amongst the collection, and the camera I used to photograph all the other cameras. Please excuse the poor quality image of it but I had to take it on my Blackberry, which obviously, does not make it onto the favourite cameras list! I've had this camera for almost a year now, I got it as a graduation present when I finished Uni. Before I had this camera I was so against buying a DSLR as they're so bulky to carry around and as I'm sure you've noticed I'm a big fan of film photography. I don't actually know how I lived without this thing, it's amazing! I would definitely recommend it, it's so compact and isn't heavy to carry around. If you are thinking of buying one of these make sure you get the zoom lens as well, I had to wait until Christmas to get the lens and I've used the camera so much more since I got it, I really missed being able to zoom! The photograph was taken at the zoo and I love how this camera can capture the details of the fur, even through the glass.

I hope you enjoyed reading something a little different on my blog!
I'd been thinking about doing a post on my favourites from my camera collection for a little while and Lily's lovely post encouraged me to go for it!
What's in your camera collection?

Jennifer Lawrence for ASOS

That's right, no weekly style! I've gone for something a little different this week as I genuinely couldn't find enough items I actually liked to create one of my usual Wednesday posts. I saw these images of Jennifer Lawrence taken for ASOS magazine earlier this week and thought I'd share them instead.
Long-time readers may remember my love of her performance in Winter's Bone from this post.
