May Film Roundup: Buy, Pass or Rent?

Blue Valentine (2010)
Months and months ago I watched the trailer for this film and had been dying to see it. When it was only released in a small selection of cinemas I missed out and was rather disappointed so I swiftly placed a pre order for the DVD. The film wasn't quite what I thought it would be, of course I was expecting it to be intense, and it was, but it was so much more uncomfortable than I had anticipated. I have a lot of respect for how raw it is and for Michelle & Ryan's performances.  I'd class this as a film to be rented and not bought as I definitely won't be watching it often (it takes a while to recover haha). I would recommend it as one to see, but be warned, it's a tough watch.
Sunshine Cleaning (2008)
I rented this film on a whim and I'm so glad that I did. Sure, it's not the best film in the world but I found the concept original and interesting. I thought a lot of the sub-stories seemed rather rushed and were left unresolved, and it took me a while to cope with Emily Blunt having an American accent, but as a whole I actually quite enjoyed it. Rent away!
Rope (1948)
You may remember that I mentioned in one of my Week In Photos posts that I had purchased the Hitchcock box set and Rope is the first film I went for. The way it is filmed like a stage play makes it an interesting watch, there are a few particular scenes where I thought the camera angles were chosen so perfectly. Although I quite liked it, for most people I'd say its probably a pass, however if you are a fan of older films/Hitchcock then it's worth watching.
Rent (2005)
Thank you itunes for the wonder that is 99p rentals! This month wasn't the first time that I had seen Rent, I watched it several years ago and had been planning to watch it again for a little while. Second time round I didn't like it as much as I had from remembered the first time. There are a handful of musicals that I really like but I just don't find the songs in Rent to be that memorable or catchy. Having said that it is a pretty good film so it's also a rent.
Dan In Real Life (2007)
This film is one I never would have paid to watch, however when it popped up on iPlayer I decided to give it a chance. I've been trying to step out of my film comfort zone and give a wider range of films a chance which hasn't particularly paid off yet. Personally I really don't like these kind of comedies, I just don't find them very funny. I know a lot of people love them but I just can't understand it, I'm not completely miserable, honest! Even though I gave it a chance it's still a pass, it's just not for me.
Assault on Precinct 13 (1976)
I surprised myself with this one, recommended at my film studies class, when I saw it on iPlayer I thought why not?! It was a lot better than I was expecting, again I didn't think it was amazing and I won't be buying it anytime soon. I'm pretty sure I won't be watching the remake either (that does look awful). The repetition of the same piece of music throughout drove me crazy. It's like that feeling you get after watching Requiem for a Dream where that same song plays so much it's stuck in your head for weeks, except with this film the music was extremely irritating. Maybe that's just me?! It's another one which may appeal to some people but probably not the majority. Kill Bill Vol 1 (2003)
This is definitely one I can now cross of from the 'must-see' lists. I had seen parts of it before but had never actually sat and watched the whole thing. It's one of those must see films that I have been putting off because I didn't think I would like it at all.  Being a Tarantino film it naturally has a distinctive style, and obviously that's part of what it's famous for, but I found it distracting at times. Again I'm sitting on the fence and classing it as one to rent..... and I will be watching part 2 on BBC3 next weekend, it is a 'must see' after all! So far these posts seem to end up seeming rather negative...
As always your film recommendations are welcomed!

Sunday DIY: Feather Manicure

I saw some video tutorials for this look on Youtube whilst looking at Galaxy nail tutorials.
Basically you paint your nails with a base colour (I used Models Own Gun Grey) then apply a topcoat and carefully place the feather on top and press it down to make sure it sticks. Once that's dry you apply another topcoat, or three (!), to seal it onto the nail.
If you're interested in a demonstration video just type 'feather nail tutorial' in youtube and a few should come up!
I've only done this on one nail and it's a little messy. I also have no idea how difficult it will be to get this off!
What do you think, would you try this look?

I spent all of yesterday packaging and photographing items for the shop so there will hopefully be things on there later today!

Weekly Style Inspiration 18/100th Post!

Striped Pattern Shirt & Cropped Shirt: ASOS, Heels: River Island, Sandals: Office, Bag: French Connection, Earrings & Ring: Urban Outfitters, Floral Blouse & Leggings: Topshop, Dress: Select

This happens to be my 100th post since I started this blog back in October and has happened to fall on a Wednesday which has more recently become the home for my Weekly Style Inspiration posts. I did think about posting something a bit different to celebrate hitting 100 but I decided to stick with this as I feel like my first ever post was really the beginning of the Weekly Style idea.
This also seems to be one of those weeks where the items I've chosen actually have some sort of theme and unity to them, I do like it when that happens!
I will be emailing those who entered the giveaway soon, probably tomorrow :)

Week In Photos 11/Giveaway Final Reminder!

More 3 for 2 at Boots, I love Simple and went to buy some more toner. I thought I'd take advantage of the offer and try a couple of new things too  / Found out that V has been cancelled, I was expecting it but I'm not pleased at how it finished.. / Nails, H&M 'Dazzling Jade' I didn't photograph it well but it's a beautiful colour / Watched Eurovision of course! / Got rid of my old wardrobe as the new one should arrive next month, until then my clothes are living in boxes and on this rail / Noodlessss, I was excited as I hadn't had them in a while / Bought the Hitchcock box set, I watched Rope last night so look out for that when it's time for my May Film Roundup! / Sawyer enjoyed his new treats / My friend brought me some chocolate from New Zealand :)
I had a busy week but I didn't photograph much of it so here it looks rather dull!
The giveaway hasn't gone to plan at all what with Blogger not working, posts and comments disappearing and me not being at home to post over the weekend! I also mentioned before that I was hoping to have some stock in the shop by now but it's still empty at the moment, although I have been making a few things. Thanks for bearing with me on that!
Anyway, here's one final reminder for anyone else who's interested.
I'm considering sending out something to everyone who has entered, as a thank you, I really appreciate you guys taking the time to read my blog!

My next post will be my 100th, see you then!

Style Inspiration: Taylor Swift

Taylor really knows how choose a dress. She tends to stick to a similar length and skirt shape which shows off her long legs! I particularly love how the same style translates well from casual daytime outfits right through to red carpet glamour.

This week I've decided to put together some images of dresses to recreate Taylor's look.

Playsuit, Jewellery, Shorts & Nail Polish: Topshop, Phone Case: H&M, Sequin Dress: French Connection, Belted Dress: ASOS

I love love love that French Connection dress, shame it's over £100 and I have nowhere to go in it! The Topshop shorts are so perfect for Summer and I particularly like the studded collar detailing on the playsuit. I thought the little leather phone case from H&M was really cute too. I actually have my Blackberry in a knitted case and I'm hoping to make some of those to sell in my shop sometime.

In case you missed it yesterday I'm running a giveaway this week which you can enter HERE.

'Sawyer & Scout' Shop Coming Soon!

If you saw my post yesterday then you might be a little confused by this! I posted that I had decided on a shop name however after a rethink I've decided to go with another option 'Sawyer & Scout'.

I'm excited about finally getting around to this after all the trouble I've had with Paypal and I really hope you guys are going to like it. As promised I will be running a giveaway to celebrate the shop launch, so please do look out for that very soon!

As you also may have noticed I made a proper header for my blog, i was tired of it looking so dull and I thought using some of my own photographs would give it a more personal touch.
My plan to post a Sunday DIY today hasn't really worked out as I've been super busy, but I will be back on track with a Week in Photos tomorrow. Hope everyone has had a lovely weekend!

Weekly Style Inspiration 16.

Nail Colour, Ring, Purse & Skirt: Topshop, Yellow Dress & Earrings: ASOS, Smock Dress & Bangles: H&M, Cowboy Boots: New Look, Blue Top: Miss Selfridge

Only a small selection this week I'm afraid, I've been finding it much more difficult recently to find items I actually like. The little house ring is one I've been meaning to post for a few weeks now, it's just adorable! The colour of the purse is really lovely too and it has a cute pattern on it if you look closely. The yellow dress has really just been thrown in here because it hangs so nicely, as I've said before wearing yellow makes me look ill so I won't be buying this dress anytime soon. I've also been on the lookout for the perfect cowboy boot for a while now (anyone remember the kids ones I found at ASDA?) but whenever I try them on they just make my feet look huge, haha. The new Topshop polishes remind me of some of the shades already available from Model's Own but I thought I'd include them anyway.
I took advantage of Boots 3 for 2 offers today so I might do a post on what I bought at some point! I reaaally need to sort out my blog and make a header that I actually like...

April Film Roundup: Buy, Pass or Rent?

My first monthly film roundup! I decided to do this instead of individual film posts once a week because I didn't always have enough to say to justify a whole post and this way I can just sum up my thoughts in a 'Buy, Pass or Rent?' style. I hope you like this new layout, even though you'll find it's quite a negative post this month....

The Box
This one definitely goes in the Pass category, in fact I have no idea why I rented it in the first place. I think it's clear from the trailer that it's going to be rubbish, I must've had a mad moment! It was pretty dull and rather pointless to be honest, although I have had fun complaining about it.

Shattered Glass
I actually watched this one on BBC iPlayer, I'd say it's one worth Renting, but it's borderline. I don't remember much of it now, so I'd say it's easily forgettable but the story actually had the potential to be really interesting. The trailer actually looks pretty good haha.

The Blind Side
I'd recommend this one to people even though I didn't love it, I didn't even watch it twice before I returned it. Again, the story is interesting and worth the Rent but at the end of the day it's just not a film I would want to watch over and over. I did enjoy Tim McGraw's singing on the credits too!

Shutter Island
This one is a definite Rent. I'm not a huge fan of Leonardo DiCaprio but for some reason I continue to watch films he's in. As yet I haven't loved any of them, but this would probably be my favourite so far. Out of the April selection this the one that stood out the most and I quite liked the aesthetics too, particularly the saturated colours.

Citizen Kane
One of those movies they say everyone should watch, and on that basis alone I'm going to say it's a Rent!

The first time I tried to watch this I turned it off within 20 minutes or so out of annoyance. I had wanted to go and see it at the cinema but ended up seeing something else instead. Determined to get my £2 worth (!), I did end up watching it all the way through but for me this one's a Pass, unfortunately I really just couldn't get on with it.

Apparently I didn't make the best choices in April as none of them fell into the buy category, but at least it saves me some money! And no cinema trips, this makes me a little sad, especially as I was hoping to see Scream 4. Let me know if you liked this new addition to my blog and whether you'd like to see it become a regular monthly post.
I went out and took lots and lots of photos today so when I get those developed next week I should be able to do some more photography posts too! I was also pleasantly surprised at how many comments I got on my last post, thanks to everyone who commented I really appreciate it, and hello to new followers :)
